WANTAGH, N.Y. – A police investigation into a nonfatal overdose led to two arrests and the seizure of more than 10 pounds of cannabis, cocaine, psychedelic mushrooms, pills, LSD, ketamine, hundreds of THC and nicotine vape products and more than $30,000 in cash, Nassau County police said.
Narcotics/Vice Squad detectives arrested Jack Acquafredda, 23, on Thursday, Aug. 6, during an investigation in Wantagh into the overdose of a Nassau County resident, police said.
Detectives said Acquafredda was taken into custody without incident. Investigators subsequently recovered a large quantity of drugs and other items from his residence, according to police.
The seizure included approximately 41 grams of cocaine, 28.9 grams of MDMA, 1.5 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms and 5.3 grams of ketamine.
Police also reported recovering approximately 54.5 grams of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine in 132 30-milligram pills, approximately 56 tabs of LSD weighing 0.6 grams, one clonazepam pill and more than 10 pounds of cannabis.
Detectives also seized several hundred THC gummies, wax products and vapes, along with several hundred flavored nicotine vapes, police said.
Investigators recovered $30,160 in cash that police said was believed to be proceeds from drug transactions. A switchblade knife, money counter, multiple drug scales and assorted drug packaging materials were also seized.
During the investigation, police also arrested Persephone Abert, 22, of New Hyde Park.
Acquafredda and Abert were each charged with three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, four counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree criminal possession of cannabis.
Acquafredda was additionally charged with another count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three additional counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.
Both defendants were scheduled to be arraigned Friday, Aug. 7, at First District Court in Hempstead.
The charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
