A Queens man was arrested after police said he entered a closed Dunkin in Williston Park, tried to make himself a cup of coffee and punched an employee who repeatedly told him to leave.
The incident happened Thursday, Aug. 6, at about 10:40 p.m. at the Dunkin at 276 Hillside Ave., according to Nassau County police.
Detectives said an employee making a delivery encountered a man inside the closed store and told him he needed to leave.
Police said the man refused, walked behind the counter and attempted to make himself coffee.
A 25-year-old male employee again told him to leave, at which point police said the man became violent and struck the employee three times in the chest, causing substantial pain.
The employee declined medical treatment at the scene.
The man then fled eastbound on Willis Avenue, police said.
A short time later, detectives located a suspect on Mineola Boulevard. Police said he attempted to run away during their investigation and struggled with detectives as they tried to take him into custody.
According to police, the man swung his arms, pulled away and refused to comply with verbal commands before detectives subdued and arrested him.
Police identified the defendant as Senai Haywood, 25, of Queens. He was transported to a local hospital for assessment following his arrest.
Haywood was charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree assault, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
He was arraigned Friday, Aug. 7, at First District Court in Hempstead.
