Nassau County police are asking for the public’s help identifying the driver of a vehicle that struck two teenage girls before leaving the scene in Merrick.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, the crash happened at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, as a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl were crossing Sunrise Highway near Merrick Avenue.
Police said the girls were struck by a dark-colored SUV driven by an unknown man. The driver allegedly fled without stopping to exchange information.
Both victims were transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators released a surveillance image of the vehicle and are asking anyone who recognizes it or has information about the incident to come forward.
