A Bay Shore man has been indicted on multiple felony charges after Suffolk County prosecutors alleged he used violence, threats, and drugs to force a woman into commercial sex acts over several days at a Patchogue motel.
According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Torrey Brown, 35, also known as “Smiley,” was arraigned June 26 before Acting Supreme Court Justice Steven A. Pilewski on an indictment charging him with one count of Sex Trafficking (Force), four counts of Sex Trafficking, and one count of Attempted Promoting Prostitution in the Third Degree.
Prosecutors alleged the investigation began with events on March 30, 2026, when Brown was staying at the Shore Motor Inn in Patchogue. Authorities said he paid for a taxi to bring the victim to the motel, where he allegedly gave her drugs and claimed she owed him a debt. Prosecutors said Brown then forced the victim to engage in commercial sex acts to repay that debt. Even after she allegedly provided him with the money he demanded, Brown told her she owed even more.
Over the following several days, prosecutors allege Brown prevented the victim from leaving by blocking the motel room door, punching her in the face, threatening her with a knife, and providing her with controlled substances that caused her to overdose.
According to the investigation, the victim escaped on April 5 after Brown fell asleep. She sought help from motel staff, who contacted police. Brown was arrested at the scene.
“This defendant allegedly used violence, drugs, and threats to control a woman and force her to do sexual acts against her will,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said. “Sex trafficking has no place in Suffolk County, and we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to bring traffickers to justice.”
Justice Pilewski ordered Brown held on $500,000 cash, $1 million bond, or a $5 million partially secured bond while the case is pending. Brown is scheduled to return to court on July 31, 2026. If convicted of the top charge, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
The investigation was conducted by the Suffolk County Police Department’s Human Trafficking Investigations Unit and the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force. Brown is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
