Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman accused of stealing hundreds of dollars in seafood from a Lake Grove grocery store last month.
According to police, the incident occurred at Wegmans, located at 3270 Middle Country Road, on March 19 at approximately 2:55 p.m. Investigators say the woman took crab legs and lobster tails valued at about $500 before leaving the store without paying.
The case is being investigated as petit larceny, a misdemeanor offense under New York law involving the theft of property. While the charge is considered less severe than felony-level theft, the value of the merchandise still represents a significant loss for the business.
Authorities have not released a description of the suspect but are urging anyone who may recognize her or have information about the incident to come forward.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1-800-220-TIPS, through the P3 Tips mobile app, or online at P3Tips.com. All information will be kept confidential.
The investigation remains ongoing.
