Woman Dies Following Crash on Long Island Expressway in Ronkonkoma

A 61-year-old woman died following a single-vehicle crash on the Long Island Expressway in Ronkonkoma late Thursday morning, according to Suffolk County Police.

Police said Pamela Hanlon was driving a 2017 Toyota Highlander eastbound on the Long Island Expressway between exits 58 and 59 when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a guardrail along the HOV lane at approximately 11:40 a.m.

Hanlon, of Port Jefferson Station, was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether Hanlon may have suffered a medical incident prior to losing control of the vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety inspection. The investigation remains ongoing.
