Westbury Man Arrested After Traffic Stop Turns Violent in Jericho

A Westbury man was arrested Friday night following a traffic stop in Jericho that escalated into a violent confrontation, according to Nassau County Police.

Police say officers observed a gray 2006 Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound on Roxbury Road near Jericho Turnpike at approximately 8:11 p.m. on February 6 and initiated a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop.

During the investigation, the driver, identified as 44-year-old Edwin Zetina of Westbury, allegedly became irate, combative, and refused to exit the vehicle. When officers attempted to place him under arrest, police say Zetina violently resisted, causing injuries to two officers.

Both officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Zetina is charged with two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest, and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. He was arraigned on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at First District Court in Hempstead.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
