Sayville Man Charged with Multiple Felonies After Burglary, Car Theft, and Ghost Gun Recovery

A Sayville man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly breaking into an occupied apartment, stealing a vehicle, and being found in possession of a loaded ghost gun, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, Douglas Davis, 24, kicked in the front door of an apartment at 15 Greeley Avenue in Sayville at approximately 4:25 p.m. on Friday, February 6. Inside the apartment were a 38-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son. A brief verbal confrontation followed before Davis fled the scene on foot. Neither resident was injured.

Police said Davis then allegedly stole an unoccupied 2010 Toyota Tacoma that was running in a nearby driveway and fled westbound on Sunrise Highway. Fifth Precinct Patrol officers later located the vehicle in Lindenhurst and took Davis into custody.

Upon his arrest, Davis was allegedly found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm ghost gun equipped with an extended magazine.

Fifth Squad detectives charged Davis with Burglary in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second, Third, and Fourth Degrees, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree.

Davis is being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday, February 7, at First District Court in Central Islip.

Detectives are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8542.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
