A Patchogue man was arrested on a boating while intoxicated charge Tuesday night after Suffolk County police rescued him from a sinking boat in the Great South Bay off Sayville, police said.
Christopher Carlson, 48, was operating a 2004 30-foot Grady-White boat when it struck an object in the water at about 9:20 p.m. Aug. 25, according to police.
Carlson called 911 and reported that his boat was sinking.
Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers responded and removed Carlson from the vessel. Police said Carlson was traveling alone and officers determined he was intoxicated.
Carlson was charged with Operating a Vessel While Intoxicated.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
