LEGO Fox Hunt and Giant Brick Sculptures Take Over Old Westbury Gardens

A fox made entirely from LEGO bricks is hiding somewhere inside Old Westbury Gardens and visitors are being challenged to find it.

The Long Island estate has officially opened “Sean Kenney’s Nature Connects Made with LEGO Bricks,” a sprawling outdoor exhibition featuring colorful sculptures inspired by animals, plants, and the natural world. Built using more than 300,000 LEGO bricks, the exhibit transforms the gardens into part art show, part scavenger hunt, and part family adventure.

And for LEGO fans on Long Island, this is the first time the internationally touring exhibit has been presented in New York.

Created by artist Sean Kenney, the exhibition blends sculpture, science, engineering, and nature across the grounds of the historic property. Around nearly every corner, visitors can stumble onto giant brick-built creations tucked into the landscape, including animals, insects, flowers, and other nature-themed installations.

Award-winning artist Sean Kenney has spent more than two decades transforming ordinary LEGO bricks into intricate sculptures that blur the line between toy, art, and engineering. His internationally touring exhibition “Nature Connects” uses larger-than-life creations inspired by animals, ecosystems, and the natural world to explore how everything in nature is interconnected. Built from hundreds of thousands of LEGO bricks, the exhibit combines sculpture, science, conservation, and playful imagination, inviting visitors to see gardens, wildlife, and even childhood creativity in a completely different way. Since debuting in 2012, “Nature Connects” has toured nearly 100 cities worldwide and become one of the most recognized outdoor LEGO art exhibitions ever created.

The exhibit is included with general admission and runs through the spring and summer season.

But this isn’t just a walk-through display.

Old Westbury Gardens is also rolling out themed events tied to the exhibit, including adults-only LEGO nights, family build programs, scavenger hunts, contests, and hands-on workshops.

One of the more unusual offerings is “Bricks & Brews: Adult Fans of LEGO Night” on Aug. 6, where guests 21 and older can take a guided tour of the exhibit before building LEGO botanical sets while enjoying beer and wine.

Families can also take part in “Brick Builders: Build Something Together” on May 28, which includes guided tours and LEGO build sessions for children and parents. Another themed event, “Family Night: Magic in the Making,” on July 18 mixes LEGO building with wizard-themed activities, costume fun, contests, and interactive challenges.

And then there’s the hunt itself.

Somewhere among the sculptures is the now-famous LEGO fox. Visitors are encouraged to explore the grounds and track down all of the hidden creations scattered throughout the property.

Kenney has been creating professional LEGO art since 2005 and has toured exhibitions around the world, including stops across North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. His work has appeared on television, in museums, and in major media outlets internationally. He has also created custom LEGO artwork for celebrities including Tina Fey and Larry Page.

More information and tickets are available through Old Westbury Gardens.
