BREAKING: Sayville Woman Arrested After Jogger Seriously Injured In Hit-And-Run Crash

A Sayville woman was arrested Tuesday, just days after a jogger was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash on Brook Street in Sayville, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, Michele Walters, 60, of Sayville, was jogging near Brook Street west of Cherry Avenue at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Police responded to a 911 call reporting an injured woman lying on the side of the road at approximately 5:44 a.m. Walters was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries.

Following an investigation by Major Case Unit and Fifth Squad detectives, Fifth Precinct officers arrested Heather Foster, 50, on Cherry Avenue in Sayville at approximately 9:28 a.m. Tuesday.

Detectives also executed a search warrant at Foster’s home on Lorraine Circle in West Sayville. Police said investigators seized evidence, including a 2021 Mazda CX-5 believed to have been involved in the crash.

Foster was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Physical Injury. She is being held at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned May 20 at First District Court in Central Islip.

Before the arrest, detectives publicly described the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored SUV that may have had front-end or front passenger-side damage and released an image of a vehicle of interest seen on Brook Street.

Police noted that a criminal charge is an accusation and that Foster is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
