A Hewlett Neck man was arrested after police said he shoved and threatened a woman, forcibly took her cell phone and damaged it during an argument Saturday afternoon.
Nassau County police said officers responded to a residence on Dolphin Drive in Hewlett Neck at about 2:33 p.m. on Aug. 8 for a reported disturbance.
Detectives said Ahmed S. Khalil, 54, and a 50-year-old woman had been involved in a verbal argument that escalated.
Police allege Khalil shoved the woman to the ground while threatening her. He then forcibly removed her cell phone from her hands and damaged it, according to detectives.
The woman, fearing for her safety, fled on foot to a neighboring residence and called 911, police said.
Officers located Khalil a short time later and arrested him without incident.
Khalil was charged with third-degree menacing, fourth-degree grand larceny, third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree harassment.
He was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday, Aug. 9, at First District Court in Hempstead.
