Hempstead Man Arrested in Wantagh Underage Sales Crackdown at Smoke Bazaar

A 23-year-old Hempstead man was arrested during an underage sales enforcement initiative at a Wantagh smoke shop, Nassau County police said.

The Strategic Response Team conducted the “Project 21” initiative at about 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, targeting the sale of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products to minors.

Police said officers, assisted by underage agents, conducted an investigation at Smoke Bazaar, located at 3010 Merrick Road in Wantagh.

During the investigation, officers observed what police described as a large quantity of flavored vape products displayed for sale.

Tamer Ghazali, 23, of Hempstead, was arrested without incident, police said.

Ghazali was charged with sale of restricted products, two counts of age restricted products and sale of flavored products prohibited.

He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in First District Court on Friday, Aug. 28.
