A Greenport man was arrested Monday after Suffolk County police said he sent an indecent photo to a person he believed was a 13-year-old girl.
Corey Hooks, 37, of 450 5th St., was arrested June 1 following an investigation by Suffolk County Police Digital Forensic Unit detectives.
Police said the investigation began after a report that Hooks went to Top Golf in Holtsville on May 26 to meet someone he believed was a 13-year-old female he had met on social media.
Police did not indicate whether the individual was an actual 13-year-old girl or part of an undercover operation. Authorities said only that Hooks allegedly communicated with and arranged to meet a person he believed was a 13-year-old female he met on social media.
Detectives said Hooks had previously sent the person an indecent photo. Further investigation found Hooks had child pornography on his phone, according to police.
Hooks was charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child, possessing a sexual performance by a child, attempted endangering the welfare of a child and attempted dissemination of indecent material.
Police said Hooks will be held at the Sixth Precinct pending arraignment Tuesday, June 2, at First District Court in Central Islip.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
