From Cheese to Chapters: The Bookstore Patchogue Opens on Main Street

The Bookstore

According to posts on The Bookstore Patchogue’s social media pages, the bar and literary lounge will open its doors on Wednesday, November 12, at 20 E. Main Street in the heart of downtown Patchogue. The grand opening celebration begins at 5 p.m., marking the debut of a venue that’s part speakeasy, part salon, and entirely Patchogue.

The Bookstore is the creation of seven longtime local bartenders who, after years of working behind bars across Long Island, decided to combine their talents and trade in their separate ventures for a shared dream. The result: a place where conversation and craft cocktails are equally encouraged, and the décor will likely nod to the golden age of books to today.

While the owners haven’t revealed the full menu, social media hints suggest patrons can expect a curated mix of literary-inspired drinks, perhaps a Tequila Mockingbird, a Gatsby Gimlet, or a Rye and Prejudice! The name alone invites curiosity, and with its combination of pages and pours, The Bookstore seems poised to become both a haven for readers and a social hub for the Main Street crowd.

The interior is expected to evoke the cozy atmosphere of a classic study or library, with shelves lined with real books and soft lighting perfect for both reading and unwinding. Given the backgrounds of the team behind the bar, don’t be surprised to find expertly balanced cocktails, small bites to pair with your drink, and maybe even the occasional live reading or poetry night.

The building itself carries a bit of Patchogue history. For more than a decade, The Cheese Patch occupied the same address, serving wine and gourmet cheese until it closed its brick-and-mortar shop earlier this year. The Bookstore now continues that spirit of local craftsmanship, swapping brie for bourbon but keeping the focus on community and conversation.

If the bar’s early buzz is any indication, The Bookstore will likely attract everyone from local writers and artists to weekend night owls looking for a quieter corner to sip something special. It’s the kind of place where a nightcap might turn into a conversation about your favorite novel—or at least the best line you’ve ever read.
