HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. — Suffolk County Police have arrested a homeless man accused of carrying out a robbery and two attempted robberies at gunpoint during a 24-hour span in Holtsville and Huntington Station.
According to police, Michael Perko, 52, was taken into custody on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, following an investigation by detectives from the Major Case Unit, Second Squad, and Sixth Squad. Perko has been charged with one count of Robbery in the First Degree and two counts of Attempted Robbery in the First Degree.
Investigators say the string of incidents began early Tuesday morning:
At 4:02 a.m. on November 11, Perko allegedly attempted to rob BP Gas, located at 1680 North Ocean Avenue in Holtsville.
Later that evening, at 7:52 p.m., he allegedly attempted to rob Akshan Wine and Liquor, located at 1100 Waverly Avenue in Holtsville. Police say an employee suffered a minor injury during a physical struggle with the suspect.
The next morning, at approximately 4:10 a.m. on November 12, Perko allegedly robbed a 7-Eleven at 901 East Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station, where cash was taken.
Perko was arrested later that day and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip.
Police reminded the public that a criminal charge is an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
