Four Newark, New Jersey men have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a burglary spree that targeted homes and luxury vehicles across Nassau County during late 2023 and early 2024.
According to Nassau County prosecutors, the group attempted to break into more than a dozen homes between Dec. 20, 2023, and Jan. 13, 2024, in communities including Lake Success, Woodmere, Valley Stream, Roslyn, Roslyn Heights, New Hyde Park, Lawrence, Syosset, Mineola and Franklin Square.
The defendants used crowbars to pry open doors and windows and frequently targeted homes during overnight hours. Prosecutors said the crew focused on stealing key fobs and high-end vehicles parked at victims’ homes.
Furquan Ahmad, 22, pleaded guilty on March 4, 2026, to five counts of second-degree burglary and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison.
Jawaun Whitted, 24, pleaded guilty on March 14, 2025, to three counts of second-degree burglary, second-degree grand larceny and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced on April 30, 2025, to 10 years in prison.
Fazon Farrington, 21, pleaded guilty on March 14, 2025, to five counts of second-degree burglary and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced on July 23, 2025, to 10 years in prison.
Raquil Hayes, 23, pleaded guilty on March 14, 2025, to two counts of attempted second-degree burglary and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced on May 23, 2025, to 3½ years in prison.
Prosecutors detailed several successful break-ins during the spree.
In Franklin Square on Dec. 23, 2023, authorities said Ahmad, Whitted and Farrington entered a home and stole a 2024 BMW valued at approximately $130,000 and a 2019 Mercedes-Benz valued at about $88,000.
Three days later, prosecutors said Farrington entered a Mineola home through a bathroom window, stole a BMW X7, a Louis Vuitton handbag, credit cards and cash.
Authorities also linked the crew to vehicle thefts from homes in North New Hyde Park, Lawrence, Woodmere and Hewlett Harbor, where victims reported stolen BMWs, an Audi RS6 and other property.
The investigation culminated on Jan. 13, 2024, after an attempted burglary in Lake Success. Prosecutors said the four defendants fled in a BMW sedan and crashed into a Lake Success Police Department vehicle before attempting to escape on foot. All four were ultimately apprehended.
During a search of the getaway vehicle, investigators recovered a loaded Glock handgun equipped with a “Glock switch,” a device that converts the firearm to fully automatic operation, according to prosecutors.
Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said the group carried out a series of overnight burglaries while targeting luxury vehicles parked at homes throughout the county.
The case was investigated by the Lake Success Police Department, the Nassau County Police Department’s Burglary Pattern Squad and other law enforcement agencies.
