A certified nursing assistant was arrested Saturday after police said he forcibly touched a disabled patient on two separate days at a Middle Island rehabilitation center.
Kevin Lopez-Diaz, 23, of Farmingville, is accused of inappropriately touching the 32-year-old woman on Sept. 3 and Sept. 4 at Surge Rehabilitation and Nursing, located at 49 Oakcrest Ave., according to Suffolk County police.
Police said another certified nursing assistant learned about the alleged incidents from the patient and called 911. The woman was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital on Sept. 5 for an evaluation.
Following an investigation by Sixth Squad detectives, Lopez-Diaz was arrested at the facility at approximately 3:20 p.m. Saturday.
He was charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person and two counts of forcible touching.
Lopez-Diaz was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday, Sept. 20, at First District Court in Central Islip.
Police are asking anyone who believes they may also be a victim of Lopez-Diaz to contact the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
