After High-Speed Chase, Armed Yaphank Gas Station Robber With Prior Felony Convicted, Faces 25 to Life

A Ridge man was convicted after a jury trial of carrying out an armed robbery at a Yaphank gas station and leading police on a high-speed chase, Suffolk County prosecutors said.

Marion Maupin, 33, was found guilty on April 28, 2026, of multiple charges including first-degree robbery, after prosecutors said he pointed a loaded gun at a clerk and stole cash during the incident.

According to trial evidence, the robbery occurred on January 24, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m. at a Shell gas station in Yaphank.

Prosecutors said Maupin and an accomplice, Raiquan Davis, 28, of Coram, entered the store wearing hoodies and masks. Davis stood by the door acting as a lookout while Maupin aimed a loaded firearm at the clerk’s head and demanded money.

The two then fled in a white Cadillac.

Fifth Precinct officers later spotted the vehicle in Bellport and attempted a traffic stop. Authorities said the suspects refused to stop and led police on a pursuit lasting about 15 minutes, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph.

During the chase, officers observed both men exit the moving vehicle and throw a firearm into a nearby yard before the Cadillac crashed into a telephone pole in front of a home daycare.

Both suspects attempted to flee on foot but were arrested in the rear yard of the daycare property. The firearm recovered nearby was later identified as the weapon used in the robbery.

Maupin was convicted of:

  • Robbery in the First Degree
  • Robbery in the Second Degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree
  • Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree

Prosecutors said Maupin has prior felony convictions, including weapons-related offenses in 2013 and 2019, for which he previously served prison time.

Davis pleaded guilty earlier this year to second-degree robbery. He was sentenced on April 7, 2026, to five years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Because of his prior felony convictions, Maupin faces a potential sentence of up to 25 years to life in prison.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said the conviction reflects the seriousness of the crime and the defendant’s criminal history.

Maupin is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on May 28, 2026.
