A South Hempstead woman was arrested after police said she cut another woman with a broken glass bottle, sprayed an unknown chemical into an officer’s face and kicked a second officer early Sunday morning.
Carolynne Alvarez, 27, was arrested following a disturbance at 681 Willis Street in South Hempstead at about 4 a.m. Aug. 30, Nassau County police said.
Detectives said Alvarez was involved in a physical altercation with a 27-year-old woman and attempted to strike her with a broken glass bottle. The bottle instead struck the victim’s finger, causing a minor laceration and pain, police said.
As First Precinct officers attempted to take Alvarez into custody, police said she sprayed an unknown chemical substance into an officer’s face, causing irritation to his face and eyes.
Alvarez continued to act violently and resist arrest, according to police. While officers were walking her to an ambulance, she allegedly kicked an officer in the knee, causing pain.
Both officers and Alvarez were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Alvarez is charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, second-degree assault, third-degree menacing, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
She was scheduled to be arraigned Monday, Aug. 31, at First District Court in Hempstead.
