A Sea Tow captain moved a burning boat away from a fuel dock in Huntington Harbor Saturday morning before firefighters extinguished the blaze after the vessel was brought to Gold Star Beach.
The Huntington Fire Department was dispatched to the boat fire at approximately 10:50 a.m. Aug. 29.
Fire officials said Mike from Sea Tow spotted smoke and moved the vessel from the fuel dock to Gold Star Beach, where firefighters could reach it. Newsday reported that the move also got the burning vessel away from other boats.
First Deputy Chief Matt Getter was the first Huntington Fire Department chief to arrive, followed shortly afterward by Engine 2-3-1, according to the department.
Chief Paul Smith commanded the response with a
ssistance from Second Deputy Chief Ryan Doyle. The Huntington Harbormaster and Suffolk County Police Department also assisted as crews extinguished the fire.
News 12 reported the fire broke out just before 11 a.m. in Huntington Harbor and that the boat was pulled toward Gold Star Beach before firefighters put out the flames. Information about possible injuries had not been confirmed as of Saturday evening.
The Halesite Fire Department provided standby coverage at Huntington Fire Department headquarters while crews handled the incident.
The cause of the fire was not immediately provided.
