Two parents were arrested after a high school flag football game in Wyandanch turned into a fight involving players, minors and alleged threats, Suffolk County police said.
The incident happened Thursday, May 7, at about 6:15 p.m. at Wyandanch Memorial High School, located at 54 South 32nd St., following a varsity-level flag football game between Southampton High School and Wyandanch Memorial High School, according to police.
Police said a fight broke out between players from the two schools after the game. Two parents then became involved.
Shalaya Gatlin, 37, of Shirley, allegedly punched a 16-year-old girl in the chest, punched another 16-year-old girl in the face and threatened a 15-year-old girl, police said.
Gatlin was charged with three counts of second-degree harassment and three counts of acting in a manner to injure a child.
Jonathan Perez, 35, of Shirley, allegedly got into a physical altercation with a 16-year-old boy, threatened people with a knife and threatened to shoot up the school, police said.
Perez was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, making a threat of mass harm, third-degree menacing, second-degree harassment and acting in a manner to injure a child.
Police said three 16-year-old victims were treated for minor injuries.
Both defendants are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
