Three Men Arrested Inside Sunrise Mall After Overnight Break-In, Gun Recovered From Vehicle

Three men were arrested early Friday after Nassau County police found them inside the shuttered Sunrise Mall in Massapequa during an apparent burglary, authorities said.

According to the Seventh Squad, officers responded to the Sunrise Mall, located at 850 Sunrise Highway, at approximately 1:27 a.m. on June 19 after receiving a report of three men inside the property after business hours.

When officers arrived, they discovered multiple damaged doors at the mall. While searching the premises, police located three suspects inside and took them into custody without incident.

Police identified the defendants as Omar Flores, 21, of Queens; Isiah Rodriguez, 20, of Levittown; and Shea Velazquez, 19, of Clermont, Florida.

During the investigation, police said Velazquez was found carrying a speed loader containing six rounds of ammunition. Detectives also recovered a black Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver from a silver Nissan Altima parked on Eastgate Road that was linked to the suspects.

Flores, Rodriguez and Velazquez are each charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglar’s tools and third-degree criminal mischief.

Velazquez faces an additional charge of criminal possession of a firearm.

All three defendants are scheduled to be arraigned Saturday, June 20, at First District Court in Hempstead.
