A second teenage girl has been arrested in connection with a series of violent assaults at the Merrick fair that left multiple girls injured, Nassau County police said.
The incidents happened around 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 22, near 2099 Sunrise Highway in Merrick, according to First Squad detectives.
Police previously arrested a 13-year-old girl who investigators say assaulted two victims during the incident. A 15-year-old girl told police she was repeatedly struck in the head before falling to the ground, where she was kicked repeatedly in the head. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
A 14-year-old victim also reported being dragged to the ground and repeatedly struck in the head, police said.
Video of the fight later circulated on social media after the mother of one of the victims posted footage online, saying her daughter was taken to the emergency room after her head was “stomped” on during the attack.
Police said a further investigation led detectives to arrest an additional 14-year-old girl for her alleged role in the assaults.
Investigators said the 14-year-old juvenile was also involved in another assault nearby in which two 15-year-old girls were dragged to the ground by their hair and repeatedly punched in the head.
The 14-year-old defendant was charged with four counts of third-degree assault. The previously arrested 13-year-old girl was charged with two counts of third-degree assault.
Both juveniles are scheduled to appear in Family Court at a later date.
