Two adults and two juveniles were arrested after police said they were caught inside a residential garage in Hewlett Neck late Sunday night.
According to Nassau County police, officers responded to a Smith Lane home at approximately 10:06 p.m. on June 7 after receiving a report of four people searching a parked vehicle before entering an open garage.
Police said officers quickly located the suspects, who were traveling on three scooters and a bicycle. The group allegedly attempted to flee on foot when approached by officers.
Following an investigation, police arrested two 17-year-old girls, along with Shanel Butcher, 18, and Quadir Ingram, 18. Police identified Butcher and Ingram as residents of Manhattan.
Authorities said Ingram refused officers’ commands during the arrest, prompting police to deploy an Electronic Control Device to take him into custody. He was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.
While at the hospital, police alleged that Ingram spit at an officer and headbutted him, causing injuries. The officer was also treated for injuries sustained during the incident.
Investigators later determined that the scooters and bicycle being used by the suspects had been reported stolen.
The two juvenile females were charged with Petit Larceny and released on appearance tickets.
Butcher and Ingram were each charged with two counts of Petit Larceny and Burglary in the Second Degree. Ingram was additionally charged with Assault in the Second Degree.
Both defendants were scheduled to be arraigned Monday, June 8, at First District Court in Hempstead.
