A second man has been indicted in connection with a 2021 acid attack outside a home in Elmont that left a 21-year-old woman with severe and lasting injuries, Nassau County prosecutors said Tuesday.
Shaquille Coke, 31, of Brooklyn, was arraigned on charges including first-degree assault for his alleged role in the attack, which authorities say was carried out by his longtime friend, Terrell Campbell, in a targeted assault tied to a past relationship.
According to investigators, the victim had just returned home from a shift at a Baldwin pharmacy on the night of March 17, 2021. As she approached her front door, a masked individual threw a liquid later determined to be sulfuric acid onto her face and upper body.
The victim collapsed on her front lawn and was transported to Nassau University Medical Center, where she was treated for second- and third-degree burns affecting her face, eye, arms, shoulders and esophagus.
Campbell, 29, was arrested earlier this year and is accused of carrying out the attack. Prosecutors allege Coke helped plan the assault and drove the vehicle used that night.
Authorities said the case was built over several years through the analysis of cell phone data, text messages and other digital evidence. Investigators allege Coke met with Campbell about an hour before the attack and later attempted to contact the victim using fake social media accounts and spoofed phone numbers.
Prosecutors also allege Coke sent the victim harassing messages after the attack and made statements indicating he wanted something “devastating” to happen to her.
Coke pleaded not guilty and was remanded. He is due back in court on April 20, 2026. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
The charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
