School Bus Driver Pleads Guilty to Assaulting a Minor, Gets 16 Year Sentence

Miguel Enrique Diaz, 49, of Bay Shore, was sentenced to 16 years in prison followed by 15 years of post-release supervision, after pleading guilty in March for assaulting an underaged girl.

“While this defendant’s sentence of 16 years in prison is substantial, it pales in comparison to the potential lifelong trauma that the victim will suffer due to the defendant’s crime,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “We hope the tremendous strength this young survivor showed to coming forward was the first of many steps in her healing process, and that it encourages others who have experienced abuse to come forward knowing that they will be heard, believed, and protected.”

According to the Suffolk DA’s office between December 2022 and October 2023, Enrique Diaz repeatedly sexually assaulted a 12-year-old child in his car and in his home. During that time he had been working as an Uber driver as well as a school bus driver in the Bay Shore School District. In March 2024, the victim told her mother about the abuse, and the mother contacted the police. On March 13, 2024, Enrique Diaz was arrested following an investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department’s Special Victims Section.

On March 17, 2026, Enrique Diaz pleaded guilty and on April 24, 2026, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison followed by 15 years of post-release supervision, and he must register as a sex offender.
