Sayville Jogger Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run, Police Seek Dark SUV

A 60-year-old Sayville woman was seriously injured Saturday morning after she was struck by a vehicle while jogging on Brook Street, Suffolk County police said.

The hit-and-run crash happened at approximately 5:30 a.m. May 16 on Brook Street, west of Cherry Avenue, according to Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call at 5:44 a.m. reporting an injured woman lying on the side of Brook Street.

An investigation determined Michele Walters, 60, of Sayville, had been jogging when she was hit by a vehicle that left the scene.

Walters was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries.

Police described the fleeing vehicle as a dark-colored SUV. Investigators said it may have front-end damage and/or front-passenger-side damage.

Detectives said a vehicle of interest was seen on Brook Street. Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk County Police Major Case detectives at 631-852-6555.
