Ridge Man Gets 20 Years to Life for Yaphank Gas Station Robbery, 100-MPH Police Chase

A Ridge man was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison for holding a loaded gun to a clerk’s head during a Yaphank gas station robbery and then leading police on a chase that exceeded 100 mph, prosecutors said.

Marion Maupin, 33, received the sentence July 15 after being classified as a persistent violent felony offender, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney.

A jury convicted Maupin in April of first- and second-degree robbery, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and unlawfully fleeing a police officer.

Prosecutors said Maupin and Raiquan Davis, 28, of Coram, entered a Shell gas station in Yaphank at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 24, 2025. Both men wore hooded sweatshirts and masks.

Davis stood near the entrance while Maupin pointed a loaded gun at the clerk’s head, demanded money and took cash from the register, according to evidence presented during the trial.

The two men fled in a white Cadillac.

Suffolk County police officers later spotted the Cadillac in Bellport and attempted to stop it. Prosecutors said Maupin and Davis instead led officers on a pursuit lasting approximately 15 minutes, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph.

During the pursuit, the men exited the Cadillac while it was still moving, and officers saw a gun thrown into a nearby yard, prosecutors said. The driverless vehicle then crashed into a telephone pole outside a home daycare.

Maupin and Davis attempted to run but were arrested in the daycare’s rear yard. Police recovered the gun and determined it was loaded and operable.

Maupin had two previous felony weapons convictions. He was sentenced to three years in prison following a 2013 conviction and five years following another conviction in 2019.

He was released to parole in January 2023 and remained on parole when the gas station robbery occurred, prosecutors said.

Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei imposed the 20-year-to-life sentence.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Amanda B. Scheier and Kieran R. Rogers of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office Major Crime Bureau. Suffolk County police Sixth Squad detectives conducted the investigation.
