A Port Jefferson Station man faces up to 30 years in prison after a Suffolk County jury found him guilty of repeatedly selling cocaine and fentanyl to an undercover police officer, prosecutors said.
Nicholas Cox, 36, was convicted Sept. 24 following a jury trial before Supreme Court Justice Stephen A. Pilewski.
According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Cox sold cocaine and fentanyl to an undercover Suffolk County police officer on four occasions between Feb. 2 and Feb. 20, 2023.
Police executed a court-authorized search warrant at Cox’s apartment on Feb. 22, 2023, prosecutors said.
Investigators recovered more than a half-ounce of cocaine, a misdemeanor amount of fentanyl and $9,247 in cash, including $730 in money used by the undercover officer to purchase drugs.
Police also recovered packaging material, medical gloves and a digital scale used in drug distribution, according to prosecutors.
The jury found Cox guilty of six counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, eight counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of second-degree criminally possessing drug paraphernalia.
Prosecutors said Cox was previously convicted of second-degree assault in 2018 and second-degree robbery in 2009.
Cox is scheduled to return to court Oct. 28 for sentencing. He faces up to 30 years in prison.
