Williston Park Man Accused of Beating 75-Year-Old Woman Caught Minutes After Fleeing

It started as an argument inside a home in Williston Park. Within moments, it turned into something far more violent.

Police say a 75-year-old woman was found injured after a brutal attack inside a residence near Amherst Street and Broad Street on the evening of April 1.

According to detectives, the victim told officers she had been arguing with 37-year-old John Strano when the situation escalated. Investigators say Strano pushed her to the ground, then repeatedly slammed her head against the floor.

The violence didn’t stop there.

Police allege he punched her in the face multiple times, struck her head with a blunt metal object, and choked her before fleeing the scene, leaving the elderly victim behind.

Emergency responders rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

The break in the case came quickly.

Officers canvassing the area located Strano nearby shortly after the attack. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to a hospital for evaluation.

He now faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and assault.

For neighbors in Williston Park, it is the kind of violence that feels especially unsettling, not just because of how brutal it was, but because of how close to home it happened.
