Port Jefferson Man Arrested After Police Find 3D-Printed Firearm Parts in Home

Suffolk County Police arrested a Port Jefferson man after investigators allegedly discovered several 3D-printed firearm components inside his home during a search connected to a previous incident.

Officers from the Sixth Precinct Investigative Unit visited the residence of Tyler Schmalenberger on November 14 as part of an investigation into an earlier menacing complaint. During that incident, Schmalenberger had allegedly pointed what appeared to be a handgun at an acquaintance.

According to police, a search of the home at 1615 Main St. uncovered multiple 3D-printed firearm receivers along with additional parts, including a complete parts kit, two 3D-printed long gun receivers, a magazine, a Glock-style spring kit, and AR-type components.

Schmalenberger, 30, was charged with Menacing 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree. He was issued a Desk Appearance Ticket and will be arraigned at a later date.

Police note that a criminal charge is an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
