Police Seize 4 Assault Rifles During Child Exploitation Investigation in Mastic Beach

A 69-year-old Mastic Beach man was arrested Friday after Suffolk County police said investigators executing a search warrant found child sexual abuse images, four assault rifles, and seven high-capacity magazines inside his home.

According to Suffolk County Police, Digital Forensic Unit detectives executed a search warrant at a residence on Cranberry Drive in Mastic Beach at approximately 7:06 a.m. on June 26 after receiving a tip through the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Program.

Police arrested Brian Tilts, 69, at the residence. Detectives said they seized four assault rifles and seven high-capacity magazines during the investigation.

Tilts was charged with:

  • Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child
  • Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child
  • Four counts of Criminal Possession of an Assault Weapon in the Third Degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree

Police said Tilts was being held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned June 27 at First District Court in Central Islip.

The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
