North Lawrence Woman Struck in Head With Blunt Object Outside Stop & Shop, Police Say

A Rosedale man was arrested after police said he struck a woman with a blunt object outside a North Lawrence grocery store Tuesday afternoon.

According to Nassau County police, Fourth Precinct officers responded to a reported assault at the Stop & Shop located at 253-01 Rockaway Turnpike at approximately 12:10 p.m. on May 12.

Detectives said Samuel Hankins, 27, of Brookville Boulevard in Rosedale, allegedly attacked a 37-year-old woman as she was exiting the store. Police said Hankins struck the victim in the arm and the back of the head with a blunt object before fleeing the area on foot.

Following an investigation, officers located Hankins nearby and arrested him without incident, police said.

The victim was transported by Nassau County police ambulance to a local hospital. Authorities said she was listed in stable condition.

Hankins has been charged with second-degree assault, a felony offense under New York law.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.

He was scheduled to be arraigned May 13 at First District Court in Hempstead.
