A Medford woman was arrested under Leandra’s Law after police said she drove while intoxicated with her two young sons before crashing into the woods in Brookhaven.
Jesher Rivera-Barreto, 31, was driving south on Horseblock Road near Montauk Highway at about 11:25 p.m. Saturday, July 18, when she lost control of a 2006 Toyota SUV, Suffolk County police said.
The vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area.
Rivera-Barreto and her 1-year-old and 4-year-old sons were taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Patchogue for evaluation.
Police said Rivera-Barreto and the 1-year-old were treated for minor injuries. The 4-year-old was not injured. Both children were released to their father at the hospital.
Rivera-Barreto was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger younger than 15 under Leandra’s Law, driving while intoxicated and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said she was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned July 19 at First District Court in Central Islip.

The charges are accusations. Rivera-Barreto is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
