A North New Hyde Park man was arrested early Tuesday morning after police said he crashed into a Nassau County police vehicle while driving intoxicated, injuring an officer.
According to Nassau County police, the incident occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m. on June 16 near the intersection of New Hyde Park Road and Aberdeen Road in North New Hyde Park.
Police said a Third Precinct officer was conducting routine patrol when a 2004 Infiniti sedan struck the patrol vehicle from behind. The crash was witnessed by another patrol unit that was in the area on an unrelated assignment.
The driver of the Infiniti remained at the scene. Following an investigation, officers determined the driver was intoxicated and took him into custody without incident, police said.
The driver was identified as Rene Dominguez Alonso, 38, of North New Hyde Park.
The officer who was struck in the collision was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Dominguez Alonso is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Blood Alcohol Content greater than .10 percent, and Assault in the Third Degree.
He was scheduled to be arraigned June 16 at First District Court in Hempstead.
