62-Foot Vessel Takes on Water Near Sands Point, 8 Passengers Rescued

Eight passengers were safely brought back to shore after a 62-foot vessel began taking on water near Sands Point Friday evening, Nassau County police said.

The emergency was reported at about 7 p.m. on Aug. 14 in the vicinity of Success Rock, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

The department’s Marine Bureau responded after receiving a report that the vessel, carrying eight passengers, was taking on water.

The Town of North Hempstead Bay Constables, U.S. Coast Guard, Rye Police Department Marine Bureau and FDNY Marine Bureau also responded to assist.

Nassau County Marine 3 brought all eight passengers safely back to shore, police said. No injuries were reported.

TowBoatUS responded to tow the vessel.
