Man Goes on Tesla-Smashing Rampage at Westbury Showroom Over Missing Crypto Hard Drive

An upstate New York man allegedly went on a bizarre Tesla-smashing rampage at a Westbury dealership Sunday after demanding employees hand over a hard drive he claimed was loaded with cryptocurrency, Nassau County police said.

Travis Dubshinski, 39, of Jefferson, walked into the Tesla Motors showroom at 1350 Corporate Drive around 10:15 a.m. demanding staff return his hard drive and money, according to detectives.

Employees told police they had never seen Dubshinski before and had no idea what he was talking about.

Authorities said Dubshinski became enraged, stormed out of the showroom, and went to his white Mazda, where he grabbed an ice scraper.

Police said he then used the tool to attack two Tesla vehicles parked outside the dealership, leaving behind approximately $3,800 in damage.

After allegedly smashing the vehicles, Dubshinski fled the scene in his car, authorities said.

Police stopped him a short time later near Corporate Drive and Merrick Avenue, where he was arrested without incident.

Dubshinski was charged with second-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Investigators said the damaged vehicles were brand-new Teslas on dealership property. Authorities have not indicated there was any connection between the dealership and the hard drive Dubshinski claimed was missing.

Dubshinski was scheduled to be arraigned Monday, May 11, at First District Court in Hempstead.
