A 21-year-old Georgia woman was arrested after Nassau County police said she became combative and injured an officer during a traffic investigation in Jericho on Thursday evening.
Madeleine Fisette, of Powder Springs, Georgia, is charged with second-degree assault, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
Members of the Nassau County Police Department’s Strategic Response Team were conducting a Vehicle and Traffic Law investigation on Jericho Turnpike at approximately 7:10 p.m. when Fisette exited her vehicle onto the shoulder, police said.
Authorities allege Fisette began yelling at officers and obstructing traffic. Police said she ignored repeated commands to leave the roadway.
When officers attempted to arrest her, Fisette allegedly became violent and combative, causing an officer to suffer injuries, according to police.
The injured officer was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Fisette was also transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Police said Fisette was scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead. The department’s release listed the arraignment date as “June 31,” which does not exist, but identified the proceeding as taking place the Friday after the July 30 arrest.
The charges are accusations, and Fisette is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
