A Baldwin woman was arrested after Nassau County police said she forged documents to transfer a 75-year-old man’s West Hempstead home into her name and rented out multiple properties she did not own.
Aurelia Soogea, 39, of Wesley Street, was arrested following an investigation into a series of alleged grand larcenies committed throughout Nassau County between December 2025 and July 2026, police said.
Detectives with the Nassau County Police Department’s Electronics Squad Fraud and Forgery Section said Soogea targeted a residential property on Maple Street in West Hempstead.
Investigators allege she forged documents to fraudulently transfer the deed from the 75-year-old homeowner into her own name.
Police said investigators also discovered that Soogea had rented multiple residential properties she did not own to families throughout Nassau County between July 8 and July 28.
After what police described as an extensive investigation, officers located Soogea and arrested her without incident. No injuries were reported.
Police said Soogea was also found with numerous pills believed to be oxycodone.
She was charged with second-degree grand larceny, two counts of third-degree grand larceny, two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, first-degree scheme to defraud and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Soogea was scheduled to be arraigned July 31 at First District Court in Hempstead. The charges are allegations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
