An East Meadow man was ordered held without bail after police said he drove while impaired by drugs and struck a stationary bicyclist in Inwood, leaving the 31-year-old victim critically injured.
The crash occurred at about 10:11 p.m. Friday at Nassau Expressway and Burnside Avenue, according to Nassau County Police.
Police said Michael Mayosky, 51, was driving a 2018 Subaru east on Burnside Avenue when he struck the bicyclist, who was stationary at the time.
The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Mayosky remained at the scene and was arrested, police said.
He was charged with aggravated vehicular assault, first- and second-degree vehicular assault, second-degree assault, driving while ability impaired by drugs, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and reckless driving, among other offenses.
Court records show Mayosky was arraigned Sunday in Nassau District Court and pleaded not guilty. He was remanded without bail, and his driver’s license was suspended pending prosecution.
The court record also shows that some of the felony vehicular assault charges are based on a prior conviction under New York’s impaired-driving law. Other counts allege that Mayosky’s license was suspended or revoked at the time of the crash.
He also faces third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and driving without a license charges.
Mayosky is scheduled to return to Nassau District Court in Mineola on Sept. 23.
