State Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who disappeared from view while in the ocean at Robert Moses State Park on Saturday afternoon.
The man was seen in the water near Field 3 at about 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 26, according to the New York State Police and New York State Park Police.
Police described him as a white male who was wearing dark-colored shorts. Authorities said he disappeared from view and was not seen exiting the water.
His identity remained unknown as investigators continued working to determine who he was.
News 12 reported that search efforts were expected to resume Sunday. Swimming at the park was prohibited Saturday amid dangerous storm conditions.
The National Weather Service had a high surf advisory and high rip current risk in effect for Robert Moses State Park on Saturday, with surf around 11 feet and northeast winds around 40 mph.
Anyone who has a family member, friend or acquaintance who may have been at Robert Moses State Park at that time and whose whereabouts are unknown is asked to contact the New York State Police at 631-756-3300 or the New York State Park Police at 631-321-3700.
