He Thought He Got Away After Spinning Out in Mount Sinai Parking Lot, Days Later, Police Seized His SUV

At first, it looked like just another late-night stunt session in a quiet Mount Sinai parking lot.

Tires screeched. A 2015 Dodge Durango spun and slid across the pavement as the driver pushed the limits, turning an ordinary night into something dangerous—and very public.

But what the driver may not have realized was that he wasn’t alone.

On March 9, members of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Street Takeover Task Force were already nearby, watching. What they saw wasn’t just reckless driving-it was the kind of behavior that has become increasingly common across Long Island: high-risk stunts, street takeovers, and illegal racing.

That night, the driver left the scene without being stopped.

But the story didn’t end there.

In the days that followed, investigators worked to identify the driver and track down the vehicle. Their investigation led them to an 18-year-old man from Brentwood.

The turning point came when police located the Dodge Durango itself, seizing the SUV as part of the case.

The unnamed driver has now been charged with participating in unlawful speed contests, sideshows, and races.

Authorities are reminding Long Islanders that just because someone isn’t caught in the moment doesn’t mean they’ve gotten away with it.

Anyone who witnesses reckless driving or street racing is urged to call 631-852-COPS.
