Calverton Man Indicted for Murder of His Mother, Prosecutors Say

A Calverton man has been indicted for allegedly stabbing his mother to death and attempting to conceal her body, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said Curtis Trent Jr., 36, was indicted on one count of Murder in the Second Degree, one count of Concealment of a Human Corpse and one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence in connection with the death of his mother, Kathleen Harrison Trent, 63.

According to investigators, on January 29, 2026 a relative went to the victim’s home on Forge Road in Calverton, where she lived with her son. After seeing what appeared to be blood inside and around the home and being unable to locate the victim, the relative contacted police.

Officers from the Riverhead Town Police Department responded but were unable to locate the victim, her vehicle or the defendant. Authorities later determined the victim had last been seen on January 27.

Police said when officers entered the home they found the victim’s phone, wallet and medication left behind. Investigators also recovered a pair of male sneakers that appeared to have blood on the soles.

During the early morning hours of January 30, Trent allegedly returned to the Forge Road home driving his mother’s 2017 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, according to prosecutors. Police impounded the vehicle and later allegedly found blood on the tailgate.

On February 6, authorities said clothing believed to belong to the defendant was located on Mill Road in Manorville. The clothing appeared to have blood on it and was sent to the Suffolk County Crime Laboratory along with other evidence collected during the investigation.

The victim’s body was discovered on February 11 wrapped in a blanket about 25 feet off Connecticut Avenue in Manorville. An autopsy determined she died from stab wounds to her torso, face and neck.

Trent was arraigned Friday before Acting Supreme Court Justice Richard I. Horowitz and ordered held without bail. He faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted on the top charge.

He is scheduled to return to court on April 22, 2026.

Authorities noted that criminal charges are accusations and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
