President Donald Trump has fired Attorney General Pam Bondi following a turbulent stretch marked by controversy and internal frustration, according to multiple reports breaking now.
Bondi, a longtime Trump ally, had been under pressure over her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and a series of politically charged investigations that failed to gain traction in court. Critics had also raised concerns about the Justice Department being used to target political opponents during her tenure.
Trump is temporarily replacing her with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, while weighing a permanent successor.
One name with a strong Long Island connection is already in the mix. Lee Zeldin, who represented parts of Suffolk County and ran for governor of New York, is reportedly under consideration. Trump has previously praised Zeldin publicly. Zeldin currently serves as head of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Bondi’s tenure lasted just over a year and included:
- Launching investigations into high-profile figures like Jerome Powell, Letitia James, James Comey, and John Brennan
- Multiple cases that were dismissed or failed to result in charges
- Ongoing backlash from both political opponents and members of Trump’s own base
Her firing marks another major shakeup inside the administration as Trump continues reshaping key leadership roles.
