A Brentwood taxi driver was arrested Monday after Suffolk County police said officers pulled him over and discovered he had 37 license suspensions.
Dwight Douglas, 51, was driving a 2016 Toyota Camry operating as a taxi for Crown Cars Service when he was stopped on Suffolk Avenue in Brentwood at about 10:19 a.m. Aug. 24, police said.
Third Precinct Officers Peter Leonello and Anthony Reyes-Torres were conducting traffic enforcement in areas identified by police as high-crash locations when they saw the taxi fail to stop at a stop sign, according to police.
Officers pulled the vehicle over and a check of Douglas’ license showed 37 suspensions, police said.
Douglas was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Police said he was also issued several vehicle and traffic law violations.
He is expected to be arraigned at a later date.
The charges are accusations and Douglas is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
