Shirley Man Accused of Stealing Two License Plate Readers

A 68-year-old Shirley man was arrested Monday after Suffolk County police said he stole two automated license plate readers from an intersection in Shirley the previous evening.

Miguel Perez allegedly took two Axon license plate readers from Moriches-Middle Island Road near Glen Drive at about 6:40 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, police said.

Police arrested Perez at about 5 p.m. Monday on Carnation Drive in Shirley. He was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny.

Perez was issued a desk appearance ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned at a later date.

Detectives asked anyone with information about the theft to contact the Suffolk County Police Property Auto Crime Section at 631-852-6429.

The charge is an accusation, and Perez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
