A Queens man was arrested after he allegedly punched and choked a woman, threatened her life and took her cellphone to prevent her from calling 911 during a disturbance in North Lawrence, police said.
Wikash Sant, 38, was arrested following the incident at 480 Rockaway Boulevard at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, according to Nassau County police.
Fourth Squad detectives said officers responded to the location after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance involving Sant and a 43-year-old woman.
Police said a verbal argument escalated when Sant allegedly struck the woman in the face with a closed fist. He then allegedly grabbed her around the neck and threatened to kill her.
Sant is also accused of forcibly taking the woman’s cellphone, preventing her from calling 911, police said.
The woman feared for her life and fled the scene on foot, according to detectives.
Officers located Sant a short time later and took him into custody without incident.
Sant is charged with second-degree robbery, third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief and criminal obstruction of breathing.
He was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, July 23, at Nassau County Court in Garden City.
