Nassau County police are searching for two men after a 76-year-old woman was scammed out of approximately $60,000 following a fraudulent text message about her Apple Pay account.
Police said the woman received a text claiming there were possible fraudulent transactions on her Apple Pay account and directing her to call a phone number to resolve the issue.
The victim complied and met separately with two men between Aug. 25 and Aug. 27 at locations in Williston Park and Mineola, according to detectives. Police said she gave each man approximately $30,000.
The woman realized she had been scammed on Aug. 28 and contacted police.
Police described the first man, who met with the victim on Aug. 25, as white, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall with a stocky build.
The second man, who met with the victim on Aug. 27, was described as Asian, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a dark T-shirt and may have been wearing glasses.
Police released two photos of the second man as part of the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or call 911. All callers will remain anonymous.
The Nassau County Police Department also urged residents to remain alert and remind vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors about potential scams and fraud.
