Mastic Woman Arrested in String of Vehicle, Store Thefts

A Mastic woman has been arrested in connection with a series of thefts from vehicles and local businesses in Shirley and Mastic throughout February, Suffolk County Police said.

Seventh Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting a woman attempting to break into vehicles in front of 109 Poospatuck Lane in Mastic on March 1 at approximately 9:07 a.m. Investigators from the Seventh Precinct Investigative Unit advised responding patrol officers that the suspect, Janelle Edwards, was wanted in connection with other recent incidents in the area. Edwards was taken into custody shortly after.

According to police, Edwards is charged in the following incidents:

  • Stealing $827 worth of nasal spray from Stop & Shop, 999 Montauk Highway, Shirley, on February 13 at 10:48 a.m.

  • Stealing cash from an unlocked 2005 Toyota on Revilo Drive in Shirley on February 27 at 12:56 a.m.

  • Stealing cash from an unlocked 2019 BMW on Revilo Drive in Shirley on February 27 at 2 a.m.

  • Breaking the window of a 2011 Hyundai and stealing a wallet on Bullard Street in Mastic on February 27 at 6:25 a.m.

  • Stealing food from Handy Pantry, 630 Mastic Road, Mastic, on February 28 at 6:15 a.m.

Edwards, 38, of 94 Mastic Blvd., was charged with five counts of Petit Larceny and one count of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. She is being held at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 2.
